Solar Installations

Up to 40 schools each year will receive donations of a new 1 kilowatt photovoltaic system that converts sunlight into electricity. This solar panel could save the school several hundred dollars in energy costs each year. But more importantly, it serves as a symbol and resource of environmental stewardship and study.

Included in the package is an online monitoring tool that:

  • Provides real-time data on the system's activity
  • Allows students to compare their solar panel's output with that of other solar schools across the state.

Eligibility

Foundation for Environmental Education will coordinate the selection and installation process for all solar installation projects.

  • Any K-12 public school within the PG&E service area, which is currently getting its electricity from PG&E, is eligible to apply.
  • Eligible schools within underserved or rural communities will receive first priority in the selection process.

If you have questions about the application or the installation, please contact Glen Kizer at glen@learnenergy.org.

Each school that applies for a photovoltaic (PV) system will receive a thorough review of its application. Schools selected to participate will be notified by a representative of PG&E by the end of October.

Schools that are not selected for a PV system will be invited to participate in a PG&E sponsored teacher training workshop. Schools that are not selected will be eligible to reapply during future rounds of this program.
